Ed Ricketts, close friend of John Steinbeck, was a marine biologist. Steinbeck was able to go on a number of expeditions with Ricketts, and these served as research for Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday, and The Sea of Cortez. Cannery Row is dedicated to him.
Dora Flood is a character in John Steinbeck's "Cannery Row." She is the owner of the Bear Flag Restaurant and is portrayed as a strong, independent woman who runs her establishment with a sense of pride and resilience. Despite her profession as a madam, she is respected by the community for her kindness and generosity, often providing food and shelter to those in need. Dora embodies the vibrant, often gritty spirit of Cannery Row, contributing to the unique tapestry of characters that define the area.
I've never read Cannery Row but I have read Of Mice and Men and I suggest read it, it is one of the best books in the word, heart wrenching but far too short, one of the only books as soon as I have finished it I read again straight away.
