The story is about the spirit of Christmas and Scrooge want intentionally out to hurt, he was misguided and used poor experiences across his life to make judgements. He thought he couldn't change. It is easier to forgive those who make such errors than allow the error if someone ways to could your own judgment. Scrooge admitted his error and tried desperately to do things to make up for those mistakes therefore Dickens sees that he deserve another chance and as part of that was a simple forgiveness
