Whether she realizes it or not, Carolyn Reeder wants to introduce young people to history. She wants to write good teen novels. She wants to write good stories.

All stories regardless of the age group must have some type of conflict. War is a good source of conflict in a story. In a teen novel, a friend or father goes to war and leaves a lonely child with a semi-impossible task with all sorts of historical events happening, etc. Of course, in the end, they get back together. Such is the story of many teen novels.

There can be any kind of conflict in stories as you teach history using novels. A good story must have a plot, an introduction to orient the reader, conflict, story development, character development, a climax, and an ending.
