because after the episode about the apocalypse, there's really not much left to do. It's either Sam and Dean die fighting Lucifer, where the show would literally not be able to go on. Or, it'll be like, "Okay. We stopped the world from ending. Now what?" Basically, Eric Kripke is stopping the show before they run out of ideas so it doesn't turn bad or boring, like the later seasons of 7th Heaven or Gilmore Girls because after the episode about the apocalypse, there's really not much left to do. Well, by the looks of it, I'd get Supernatural. I'm pretty sure it's more fun to howl at the moon, become a faerie and become a new creature than look at the weather forecast. Supernatural in my opinion, however you may disagree. Also, when I got Late Night I had more fun draining the blood of innocents than actually learning mixology...
The series was written to contain only five seasons, but after review of how well the ratings were the director decided to do one more. So the current season number six will more than likely be the last.

As of May 15, 2009, there will be five seasons of Supernatural. Series creator, Eric Kripke had envisioned the series to go five seasons and struck the agreement with series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. So it seems as if this upcoming season will be the final season. however, The CW officially renewed the show for a sixth season on February 16, 2010.[4] Kripke has confirmed that he will not be returning as showrunner; however, he will still remain as an executive producer. Sera Gamble, replacing Kripke as showrunner, has stated that the sixth season will focus on the brothers' relationship. it is unknown how many there will be...but there will be a season 6
