In March of 2017, it was reported the script was completed but considering there has been talk of a sequel since 2011 it remains to be seen if one ever gets made.

Unlikely. The Golden Compass was unsuccessful and not profitable, therefore the same studio will not be making The Subtle Knife. Currently other studios have not opted for the opportunity. The ending of The Golden Compass was left unfinished, which makes The Subtle Knife being made into a film even more unlikely.
