Chase Bank sent me a summons for a credit card that I had. I was trying to reach a settlement but they wouldn't answer. I had to go downtown Chicago and file with the clerk a statement refering to the summons that they sent me. Basically said the debt wasn't mine. They have to prove it is yours. Paid a fee for filing and was issued another court date. Went to court, hoping to delay. The lawyer called me into the hall before court started and wanted to know when I would pay. I asked for more time and they set up another court date. Chase played hardball with me and I finally settled with them but after I got a lawyer to talk to them. Not knowing exactly what would happen in court on my first day, I was a little bit scared. They know that you are there because of a hardship so Chase would rather talk to you before going to a judge.
