The "One Off Key" is a security term that is normally used in a situation where one needs to be authenticated before a critical operation is executed. For example, in internet banking, if you want to perform transactions with your bank online, you may be required to enter UserName and Password. BUT to improve security and to ensure it is really your account, a One Off Key will be sent to your mobile phone. This is just a unique number that is randomly generated by the bank, so after you have entered the UserName and Password you will also be required to enter the One Off Key. If the One Off Key is correct (given the previous information is also correct) you will be able to access your account particulars.

Why is it called a One Off Key?

It is just for a very simple reason. It is a key that is used for a fixed amount of duration, after that the key is useless. You will be supplied with another key when the key expires. All these are done for security purposes, so no one can guess the key.
