The salary information for average earnings of travel agents does not include a separate category for self employed. The overall percentage of self employed is about 13%. Most of those are suspected to be in the lower income ranges, because a personal customer base is harder to maintain.
The overall salary ranges start in the lower $18,000, with the middle range falling between $20,000 and $40,000. The top earners in the large national firms can range around $50,000.
I would suspect with paying all their own expenses, a self-employed agent could not expect to make more than $25,000, and most likely will stay closer to $15,000 in the lean times the 2008 economy is facing.

A good cold sales closer and experienced F&I Manager should earn at least 100K per year on a straight 25% commission plan. I've been a Business Manager at the Suzuki Store in Canada for about 7 years now and my lowest year was the 2009 and still grossing 130K with average $1,308 per copy (BTW, my first year in 2004 my 25% commission were 160K) - and yes this is Suzuki franchise but smartly we are focusing on a pre-owned side of the business. Like the other comments said, you should get out of the F&I sales and go back to the sales floor if you are earning less than 100K on the business office per year.
