This is a question I would not usually answer. LOL My family just came back from the east coast and did a tour where they showed us the Herring traps they use to gather scales for cosmetics. The fish are not harmed, they go through a pump system on the boat that loosens scales (they regrow them) and then they release the herring back to the ocean. The scales are used for glossy and sparkled lipstick and nail polish as they have substance called Pearl Essence.
