In the 1989 Volvo 740 GL with a Bosch system it is located just above the steering column on the dash.
To change the clutch on a 1988 Volvo 740, first, disconnect the battery and raise the vehicle securely on jack stands. Remove the transmission by disconnecting the drive shaft, unbolting the transmission mount, and separating it from the engine. Once the transmission is out, unbolt the old clutch assembly from the flywheel, clean the surface, and install the new clutch disc and pressure plate, ensuring proper alignment. Finally, reassemble by reversing the disassembly steps and reconnecting the battery.
Not necessarily, most do however.
The 1990 Volvo 740 features a hydraulic clutch system, which means it does not have a manually adjustable clutch in the traditional sense. Instead, the clutch operation is managed by hydraulic pressure, which provides smoother engagement and disengagement. However, adjustments can be made to the clutch system if necessary, usually involving the master or slave cylinder, rather than a manual adjustment of the clutch itself.
Yes, you can adjust the clutch in a 1985 Volvo 740, but it's important to note that this model typically features a hydraulic clutch system, which doesn't require adjustment in the same way a mechanical clutch does. If you're experiencing issues with clutch engagement or disengagement, it may be indicative of low hydraulic fluid or a failing master or slave cylinder. Regular maintenance and checking the hydraulic system are recommended to ensure proper function.
