These "barking deer" are native to Asia. However, some escaped and/or were released from the Woburn Park area in 1925 and their offspring now live in extended areas of England. They do threaten some conservation areas, but the higher incidence of car accidents has become a concern. Recent interest in trophy hunting may help bring the population down.
