to breed bettas you will need several different tanks. you will need a breeding tank. a female tank and a male tank. then you will need tanks to put the male babies in once they get old enough to start attacking each other.

i suggest you put 3 females in the breeding tank with the male. once the male breeds with one of the females romove all the females. then once the babys are swimming freely all over the tank with out the male trying to put them back in the bubble nest remove the male. and put him in a separate tank from the females. then once you can tell the genders of the fish put all the males in their own tanks and you can leave the females in the breeding tank intill your ready to find homes for them. if you cannot tell the males apart from the females then you can separate all the fish and put them in their own tanks.

the tanks can be 1 or 2 gallons for 1 fish

i would make the females tank 15 gallons and the males 5 gallons and the breeding tank about 55 gallons.

While you can use a jar for a betta fish, it is not an ideal environment. Jars typically lack adequate space, filtration, and heating, which are essential for the health of the fish. How much room does a betta fish need?

For the best health and lifespan of a betta, you should consider something that is at least 2.5 to 5 gallons and can have a small heater (bettas need a water temp of 78F to 80F), and a low flowing filter on it whether that be a small internal filter, or a small HOB (Hang On Back).

Should i get a goldfish or a betta fish?

That is entirely up to you. Whichever fish you get you will need similar things. The differences are. A Goldfish is a coldwater fish. It will need a larger tank and filter than a Betta because it grows into a much larger fish (around 10 inches). A Betta is a tropical fish and so it will need a heater as well as a filter. The same basic rules apply. The basic rules of sucessfull fishkeeping are. :- 1 inch of fish must have at least 1 gallon of water. (Goldfish 10 gallons. Betta 3 gallons):- Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. :- Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week. If you keep the above rules your fish can do well. If you fail in the above I can guarantee that your fish will get sick and die way before they should.

I don't recommend it. Mollies can get larger than a Betta (Siamese Fighting Fish) and be far more bullish than a Betta. A Betta could easily get beaten up by Mollies! Mollies need a minimum of 20 US gallons anyway.
