fish breathe by gulping water , using air in it.
Sounds as if your fish is gulping at the surface. If that is so, you need to install an air bubbler. Your fish is running short of oxygen.
This might mean either A.The fish is dying B.This fish can breath air and under water or C it is an undiscovered fish I suggest you take it to the vet
Yes, some do. Osteichthyes (bony fish) in general have an ability to gain oxygen directly from air. Some bony fish like mudskippers can do the same but also absorb oxygen in epidermal capillaries
So long as the fish are not gulping at the surface all should be well.
Gulping is the act of swallowing quickly or eagerly, often associated with consuming food or drink in large amounts. It can also refer to the rapid intake of air, which may happen when someone is anxious or excited. In some contexts, gulping can indicate a lack of patience or the need to satisfy hunger or thirst quickly. Excessive gulping, especially of air, may lead to discomfort or bloating.
Platys are not mid water or bottom fish they are like guppies live at the top
My plecostomus did this at times, particularly at night, when he seemed to become more active. He was healthy and lived for ten years, so I believe this is normal behavior. I don't know why they do this. Someone told me their half nocturnal i have one and it is up all night.
Penguins have spikes in their throat, so when they catch a fish (penguins don't have teeth) it gets caught in their throat and suffocates in the penguin. Once the penguin realizes that the fish is...well....dead it makes a gulping noise and the fish goes down.
When you first change the water in your aquarium , there is lots and lots of waste flowing around in the water from the gravel in the bottom of the tank. it seems that your beta is just getting oxygen from the top of the water. hope this helps
Gulping sounds are caused by the process of swallowing liquid or food, often accompanied by a noise due to air being pushed through the mouth and throat. It is a common bodily function that helps move substances from the mouth into the esophagus for digestion.
The swim bladder can fill by gulping air at the surface, this enables the fish to float or empty by loosing air from the swim bladder through a pneumatic duct (a pneumatic duct is an internal gas filled organ) connected to the oesophagus, this enables the fish to sink. got this answer from another person. i really hope that it is right
