Betta fish, also known as Siamese fighting fish, occupy a niche in freshwater habitats, primarily in shallow waters like rice paddies, swamps, and slow-moving streams in Southeast Asia. They thrive in environments with dense vegetation, which provides shelter and breeding grounds. Their ability to breathe atmospheric oxygen via a labyrinth organ allows them to survive in low-oxygen conditions, giving them a competitive edge in their natural habitat. Bettas are also territorial and exhibit aggressive behaviors, particularly during mating seasons, influencing their interactions with other species.

If it is like a black clump then its your fishes feaces(crap).clean it out
They live in stagnant ponds and rice patties in Southeast Asia.
Tropical Asia Rainforests slow streams and puddles and Paddy fields.
CLEAN HIS WATER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!! Ammonia is produced from the fishes waste. It is toxic and will kill your Betta fast!!! Do regular water changes.
it depends some fish can be less aggressive than others i had a male Betta that lived fine for years with gold fish
If this black ink is comming from the fishes vent (anus) you need to do some more water changes and also improve the fishes diet.
You don't trim any fishes tail. If you do your fish will undoubtedly get fungus and die.
You can fit one betta in a 1 gallon tank, but nothing else.
No Betta fishes eggs are a pale cream colour and can be seen in the nest once the male and female have finished spawning. They can also be seen shortly after the male embraces the female as she releases them for him to collect. for a first time breeder i found them hard to spot my self at first as they can blend in very well with all the bubbles!
