Technically, there's nothing about a pickle that makes it kosher or not kosher. The name refers to a 'style' or flavor of pickling ... just so much dill and just so much salt. They won't prevent or cure anything. They sure taste good. And if you have no problem with that level of salt, then they won't hurt you. Just like any other dill pickle.

How do I incorporate dill pickles into a recipe fit for dinner?

A lot of people make potato salad and include dill pickles and that can be quite tasty. You can also add the dill juice and some dry dill weed to your soups. Again potato soup would be a good choice. You could also make a platter of cheese, celery, carrots and have dill pickles sliced up nicely.

Can dried dill weed be used for canning pickles?

Yes, dried dill weed can be used for canning pickles, although fresh dill is typically preferred for its stronger flavor and aroma. When using dried dill, it's important to adjust the quantity since dried herbs are more concentrated than fresh. Generally, one tablespoon of fresh dill is equivalent to about one teaspoon of dried dill. Ensure that the dried dill is of good quality for the best flavor in your pickles.

Why are pickles soo good?

They're so good because they're dipped in vinegar and the pickle is not a pickle its a cucumber just lightly dipped in that good savory vinegar. How pickles got its name was by a dutch word Pekel witch also means pickle. Are pickles good yes they are but if you haven't ever had a pickle buy them at your nearest store. My favorite kind of pickles are dill pickles by Mt.Olive, they are really good, so that's why pickles are so good.

Are pickles harmful?

That is a question that is entirely dependent on personal preference. The "pickling" process usually refers to a combination of herbs and spices combined with an acidic liquid, usually vinegar, that preserves the food. Most "pickles" are vegetables but many meats, like eggs, fish or sausage, can be pickled, as well. However, when Americans refer to "pickles" they are usually referring to pickled cucumbers. There are many types of pickles. Bread & Butter pickles will be sweet and sour. Regular pickles are just sour with lots of dill. Kosher pickles have garlic mixed in with the dill and some coriander (cilantro seeds). Some pickling spices also include different types of spicy peppers (black, white, red) as well. Personally, I prefer kosher dills over traditional, when I'm eating them by themselves. However, I like dill pickles on sandwiches and burgers for the added sour depth. Bread & Butter pickles can add a lot of flavor to a salad, like macaroni or potato.
