While in some cases, it may not be good for your particular dog, some will come running to share a grapefruit as soon as the smell hits them. That's as soon as I pick one up from the bowl.

Like all changes to a dog's diet, be careful and slow. Intestinal distress can make a big mess. I do not recommend lots of citrus fruit for your dog; but that is my amateur opinion. My dogs share my Oranges, clementines, mineolas and grapefruit.

Dogs aren't smart enough to stop themselves so limit yours to a section or 2. Surely results will vary by size. My 75 pound American Staffordshire Terrier tolerates 2-3 sections with no obvious issues.
