Basil turns black due to oxidation when exposed to air. To prevent this, store basil in a sealed container in the refrigerator, or freeze it in ice cube trays with water or oil.
To freeze basil leaves without blanching, wash and dry the leaves thoroughly, then chop or blend them with a little oil. Place the mixture in ice cube trays and freeze. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag for long-term storage.
Some people freeze it, but I find frozen basil doesn't get used much because it tends to be something you always use fresh. You could make pesto of various types, and freeze that; there are other recipes containing significant amounts of basil which you could also make for the freezer. Or, you could simply give away what you can't use. Basil isn't cheap to buy in the grocery store, and many people would be glad of a bag of freshly-cut basil. You could ring your local church or other charity organization and ask them if they could use some for stalls at fairs, or to give to those who need it, and so on. It's quite possible they'll send someone to pick your extra basil if it isn't easy for you to deliver it.
Air dry whole leave completely and store in air tight container, storage bags work great with the air pushed out. You can also freeze fresh basil in ice cubes, use the cubes as needed best next to fresh.
