Depends what you mean by cheese spread. If you are talking about cheese whiz or any form of processed cheeses, then NO. Cheese cake is made with cream cheese because it needs to be able to form into a solid "cake" like texture. Cheese spread cannot harden unless it dries out.
yes you can use soft cream cheese for baking.
you use cream cheese not regular cheese
no fools actually this is not strictly true as you could make a cheesecake for which you would need to use cream cheese
use fake cheese

You could use cream cheese but it wont work nearly as well.
For a cheese sauce, cheesecake or cheese tart, smooth cottage cheese or cream cheese are probably best.=Hope this helps, Anon Xx=
Plain yogurt is made the exact same way, only they use low fat milk instead of full fat cream. It makes a great healthy version. Always remember, a good cheese cake always has lemon juice in it.
For a plain cheesecake the filling will use cream cheese, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. The crust will use graham cracker crumbs and butter. There are many, many variations on this basic list.
The function of cream cheese is to add structure to the product. Usually flour will provide the majority of the structure of a cake (since it contains gluten, a protein), but in a cheesecake, there is less flour due to the addition of cheese. Additionally the cheese adds a unique texture and flavor.
Hung cheese is made by hanging fresh cheese curds in a muslin bag and allowing them to drain for several hours until they are firm. Unfortunately as it is likely to have a lower fat content than cream cheese (cream cheese usually has a fat content of 33%) it may not be ideal to make some baked cheesecakes. It is also likely to have a slightly more sour flavour than cream cheese. However, as we believe it may be similar to UK curd cheese (US farmer cheese) it should be suitable for cheesecake recipes made with curd cheese - such as Nigella's Old-Fashioned Cheesecake in Kitchen (p173). Most of the curd cheesecake recipes are baked and will come from Eastern Europe so you should be able to find a further selection on-line. You should also be able to use the hung cheese in cheesecakes that do not require baking, particularly ones that are set with gelatine. As the hung cheese will have a more sour flavour than cream cheese you may need to add a little extra sugar to the filling so taste it before spooning it over the cheesecake base. Hung cheese should be fine as a substitute for cream cheese in dips and spreads.
Yes. The cream cheese spread has been formulated to be softer and spreadable. Since brands vary, compare ingredient statements and nutritional information on the packages to find the differences.
