It should first be noted that the phrasing of the question may imply that prior to Muhammad that there was only one Arabian religion and this religion was what Muhammad changed. Neither are correct. Arabia prior to Muhammad was incredibly religiously diverse. There were several distinct sects of heretical Christianity (Ebionites, Justinians, Nestorians, etc.), a few different groups of Jews, Rahmanists (Hanif), henotheists, and followers of various forms of the Arabian and Akkadian polytheistic pantheons. Each of these religions has a distinct origin and beliefs from Islam (the religion championed by Muhammad).
When Muhammad came onto the scene, he introduced a very different form of worship and belief. After he died, pretty much all of Arabia had converted to Islam. There were some remaining Jews and Christians, but, with the exception of the Jews of Yemen, all were forced to flee northward to the Levant or to Mesopotamia.
