While there are certainly Muslims with non-Muslim family members, this is not the norm. Most Muslims, like most people of any faith, are born into that faith from a family that is exclusively of that faith. Non-Muslims who convert to Islam certainly retain their familial connections to their non-Muslim parents and family as far as the family is willing to take it (it ranges from apathy to high-interest to disownment). The reverse, when a Muslim converts out of Islam, is usually met with disownment by the Muslim family, but as Muslims are modernizing, some of them are taking the more pragmatic approach of incorporating the former Muslims into their lives while still disdaining their religious choices.
