The Spotted Owl (strix occidentalis) will eat bats, insects, squirrels, woodrats and generally animals in the tree canopy. However, at different locations he will rely on voles and rabbits, birds and rarely reptiles and amphibians. If hungry enough, a Spotted Owl will kill chickens, but this is not his preferred food. He would have to be desperate to do so.
