The only way I know of to remove freezer burn is to cut out the effected pieces.
If it is pink you could if you really wanted to but if it is black i would suggest against it. Cooked shrimp turns pink. But i dont see why you would want to eat frozen shrimp unless you couldn't wait 10 minutes to thaw it out.
Your nose will tell you if the shrimp has gone bad. Defrost one under cool running water and sniff...if you detect any iodine odor it is turning. Shrimp should have a healthy ocean aroma, or no odor at all. You generally can't tell by visual inspection.

personaly i would think before it gets freezer burn... but i wouldn't let it sit in there for more than 5/6 months. shirmp is taste, cook it up and serve it
I don't think it's a good idea to eat freezer burn it tastes wierd.
in order to not burn shrimp all you have to do is just cook more food and eventuelly your cooking level will get high enough so you will not burn them
