Blobfish typically grow to about 12 inches (30 centimeters) in length. They are deep-sea fish found at depths of around 2,000 to 4,000 feet (600 to 1,200 meters) off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand. Their gelatinous and soft body structure allows them to withstand the high pressure of their deep-sea environment. When brought to the surface, they can appear much larger and more distorted due to the lack of pressure.
