Answer 1Some verses claim that the 'prophet' Muhammad was the first Muslim. For example, "He hath no associate. This am I commanded, and I [Muhammad] am the first of the Muslims." S. 6:163

At other times the Qur'an states Moses to be the first Muslim. "And Moses fell down senseless. And when he woke he said: Glory unto Thee! I turn unto Thee repentant, and I am the first of (true) believers." Sura 7:143.

And at other times Adam, Abraham and Jesus (all born before Muhammad) were claimed to be the first Muslims.

Because of the many contradictions in Qur'anic sources it can only be assumed that Islam started with Muhammad's claims of revelations in the 7th Century AD.

Hints on Answer 1 above
  • All the verses mentioned above are correct and don't show any contradictions. Each mentioned prophet is the first Muslim in his people otherwise how he calls them to Islam (or full submission to God as the one and only one God). Islam in its universal sense means full submission to Allah (or God in English and same God worshiped in Judaism and Christianity). Accordingly, Islam is God religion since start of universe and mankind creation.
  • Quran source is only one source and not as mentioned above as Qur'anic sources. Quran only source is Allah (or God in English and same God in Christianity and Judaism0 who revealed Quran to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the angel Gabriel (or Jibril).
  • Islam started by start of universe creation and even before. Islam is an Arabic word that means full submission to God. All God creations are based on full submission (Islam) to God. All God prophets from Adam through Noah, ..., Abraham. ..., Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all) called their people to Islam. Refer to related question below.
Answer 2Islam started when Man first stepped foot on the earth. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was not the founder of Islam, but rather the final and seal of the Prophethood. Fundamental message of all the Prophets (pbut) was the same, i.e., "There is only one God, Worship him alone."

Quran says there is no a single nation to whom God hasn't sent a messenger.

As per history, Islam began in Mecca, Saudi Arabia when God revealed the Qur'an to the prophet of Islam but....... the Muslim's perspective is completely different, as per Muslim, Islam and Quran....Adam, Abraham, Noah, moses, Jesus ( Adam, Ibrahaim, Nuh, moosa,Isa in Arabic respectively) are messengers of Allah and came with the same message of montheism and message of one god and being creator of universe.

As per Muslim, Islam and Quran ... the Islam is absolute religion which exists from the day one of the mankind and Adam (peace be upon him) was the first prophet/messenger of Allah ....and the last being Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The following verses from Quran proves the point ....

And He (Allah) taught Adam the names of all things; then He placed them before the angels, and said: "Tell me the names of these if ye are right."

( Quran, Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #31)

Allah did choose Adam and Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of 'Imran above all people,-

( Quran, Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #33) that cool

We(Allah) have sent thee inspiration, as We sent it to Noah and the Messengers after him: we sent inspiration to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and to David We gave the Psalms.

( Quran, An-Nisa, Chapter #4, Verse #163)

And remember We (Allah) took from the prophets their covenant: As (We did) from thee: from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary: We took from them a solemn covenant:

( Quran, Al-Ahzab, Chapter #33, Verse #7)

We (Allah) gave Moses the Book and followed him up with a succession of apostles; We gave Jesus the son of Mary Clear (Signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit. Is it that whenever there comes to you an apostle with what ye yourselves desire not, ye are puffed up with pride?- Some ye called impostors, and others ye slay!

( Quran, Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #87)

Answer_3">Answer 3Islam does not trace its ancestry back only to Hazrat Abraham (AS). However, the last Prophet of Islam Hazrat Muhammad (May peace be upon him) was the grand, grand son of Hazrat Ismaiel (AS)m who was the son of Hazrat Abraham (AS).

Islam is the heavenly religion It is not limited to any particular region or country. The first Man and Prophet of Almighty God Hazarat Adam (AS) started Islam Religion. Islam is the set of rules given by Almighty God to the Prophets from time to time for the guidance of humans, especially when they turned astray. These rules were given to Hazrat Adam (AS), Hazrat Noa (AS), Hazrat Abraham (AS), Hazrat Moses (AS), Hazrat Jesus Christ (AS) and the last of the series of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (May peace be upon him). He was born in Makka, Arabia in 570 AD and started preaching Islam in 610 AD when the first verses of the holy Qur'an were revealed to him.

Thus Islam is the heavenly religion given step by step as human society advanced. It was completed at the last Prophet but the message of all the Prophets (May peace be upon them all) was the same: ONENESS of Almighty God Who alone is the Creator, Sustainer, Provider and Ruler of all the worlds He has created. He has No Son, No Parents and No Partner or Associate. The idea of Trinity was Not given by Hazrat Jesus Christ (May peace be upon him). It was invented much later. There have been about 1,25,000 Prophets who preached the message of Almighty God to human beings.

Islam is a universal religion. It is above caste, color and geographical boundaries. It is the heavenly religion It is not limited to any particular region or country.

With the passage of time the teachings of the earlier prophets were obscured, altered, or changed. There was a need of a new Prophet. Thus the last prophet came. He was born in Makka, Arabia in 570 AD and started preaching Islam in 610 AD when the first verses of the holy Qur'an were revealed to him.

Thus Islam is the heavenly religion given step by step as human society advanced. Just as we pass one class and are promoted to the next class with advanced syllabus to read and practice.

Answer 4

The Muslim religion is called Islam. Islam means full submission to Allah (or God and same God worshiped in Judaism and Christianity) as the one and only one God. In this understanding, Islam religion started by God by start of universe creation. Please refer to the related question below.

Islam is an Arabic word that means submission to God, the one and only one God. In this sense Islam started with start of universe creation. However Islam per Torah revelation to Moses is called Judaism; Islam per the Bible revelation to Jesus is called Christianity; and Islam per Quran revelation to Muhammad is called the same name Islam. Islam religion per God revelation of Quran to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) started with the revelation of the first verses of Quran to prophet Muhammad through the Angel Gabriel (Jibril) while the prophet was meditating in a mountain cave, called Hiraa, in Mecca (Makkah); that is currently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This was in year 610 AD. See related question below for more details.

Hints:

  • Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) was born around 570 CE.
  • Around the year 610 CE, Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), while in Mecca (presently in Saudi Arabia) began to receive Quran (holy book of Islam) revelations from God.
  • In 622 CE, he left Mecca with his followers (due to sufferings in Mecca and being subject to assassination plot) to a city in the north named Yathrib (later Medina), where another Muslim community had begun to grow. The date of this emigration is the beginning year for the Muslim calendar.
  • He didn't leave Mecca with his wife because she died before his immigration. His wife that he married when he was 25 years old remained with him as the only wife until her death after 25 years . That means that his only wife died in year 620 AD when the prophet was 50 years old. The prophet immigrated in year 622 AD and he had not married again yet.
  • God is the same God of all prophets from start of mankind until prophet Muhammad, including the prophets Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad. God's name in Arabic is Allah.
  • The Angel Gabriel (pronounced in Arabic as Jibril) who informed the Virgin Mary (in Arabic Maryam) on pregnancy with Jesus is the same Angel through whom prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) received God revelation of Quran.Muslims believe in all of God's prophets, God's angels, and all of God's holy books (but in their pure form not their edited form).
  • When the prophet died in 632 CE, Islam was on its way to becoming the faith of millions of followers.
  • In Islam; Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) is regarded as a prophet - his role is more like that of Moses in Judaism rather than Jesus in Christianity. He is not regarded in anyway as divine, but the best of mankind and the most dear to God. Islam is not a new religion founded by Prophet Mohamed (peace be on him).
  • Islam with the current disciplines is an extension to the religion preached by all the Prophets of God right from Adam, Noah, Abraham, David, Solomon, Jacob, Moses, Jesus (peace be on them all).
  • Prophet Mohamed (peace be on him) is the last and final Prophet of God who called for Islam according to the Quran revelation given to him by God. Islam is the completion of the message which has been given to all the different Prophets.

Updated Answer

Islam means Submission to God. In this meaning it is the objective of God revelations to all prophets including Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Solomon, Jesus until Mohamed. Judaism is the religion according to God revelation to Prophet Moses. Christianity is the religion according to God revelation to Prophet Jesus. The very name Islam is the religion according to God revelation to Prophet Mohamed. Islam , as the religion revelation to Prophet Mohamed, started in year 610 by the revelation of the first verse of Quran (the Islam religion Holy book) in Mecca (in present country Saudi Arabia).

  • All the verses mentioned above (in Answer 1) are correct and don't show any contradictions. Each mentioned prophet is the first Muslim in his people otherwise how he calls them to Islam (or full submission to God as the one and only one God). Islam in its universal sense means full submission to Allah (or God in English and same God worshiped in Judaism and Christianity).
