No and they are not used in most countries. Growth hormones are banned in all of North America and most of Europe. It is just not feasible to inject a drug into a chicken. Growth hormone injections are worth more than the chicken. Hormones cannot be fed to the birds, it does not work, they have to be individually injected and a current cost of about 3.00 US. A chicken, dressed out and sold to a vendor for resale nets a producer about 4.50 US.

Hormones are not used on chickens. In North America and Europe it is illegal to use growth hormones on livestock including chickens. Livestock and commercially sold products from livestock are regularly inspected by government and Non government agencies both at the source and from the final market (stores). Any violation of this law would carry severe consequences to suppliers not to mention a feeding frenzy of negative media attention.

The truth is, growth hormones are VERY expensive. In order for growth hormones to work they must be injected and they do not remain in the animals system for very long, so must be repeated at regular intervals. It is simply not cost effective to use hormones.
