Oscars (Astronotus ocellatus) evolved in the rivers of Tropical South America. That's why they are found there.

The waters of Florida's Everglades are warm enough to allow Oscars to survive, and they are found there, having either escaped or been released from home aquariums, or tropical fish farms. Some people catch them in the Everglades and consume them.
