Buy a (plastic) bottle, shake it well, take the lid off, and squeeze slightly over your salad. Voila! You have just applied salad dressing!

Caution: Don't apply too much, or you'll get the unpleasant saltiness of over-dressing.

Because dining is initially such a visual spectacle, many restaurants will deliver a small bowl (on a small plate) of the ordered salad dressing (with a SPOON!) so that you may apply a little, or a lot. So in this instance, you would spoon it on.
