Hi :-) If you would like to keep them for a long time then follow my steps: 1.They eat fruits and vegtables. But they love salad a lot.Atleast mine do..... 2.Change there food evreyday. 3.Give them 2 water boils. Why?Because they have 2 have regular water and salt water. 4.The best place to get 1 is Petco. 5.They love being outside. And if you want to play with them let them crawl all over youre shirt. It wont pinch you!But dont drop it! 6.I put my 2 hermat crabs with my pet tortoise. They dont hurt each other at all! 7.Be careful so if you have a tortoise or a hermat crab...It HAS TO BE IN WARM PLACES!They will die in cold places. 8.A 4 gallon tank is good for 2 or smaller. They will grow big.so by a bigger shell so they can go in it! 9.By more then 1 they hate to be alone. 10.They live for 80 years if you take good care of them.
usually two or three years
Pet stores
yes
the wild populations of land hermit crabs are decreasing because of people collecting them for the pet business :(
not pet hermit crabs... they are too weak and fragile to keep the hermit crab save although wild hermit crabs might use them the would be sea snails which have harder shells
You can buy hermit crabs at stores such as Petco. They have many hermit crabs things to meet your needs.
No, Hermit Crabs and Fiddler crabs require two different environments. The Hermit Crab would drown in the water a Fiddler Crab needs. You can always ask your local pet store if there is any way possible though. Some hermit crabs live on land others live in water even land hermit need two enter salt water , fiddler crabs are brackish or fresh hermit crabs can't breathe in those environments
Small fish, plankton, and other hermit crabs
Hermit crabs do not have a designated season in the wild; they are typically available year-round. However, the availability of hermit crabs in pet stores may vary depending on breeding cycles and demand. It's best to check with your local pet store for more specific information on when hermit crabs are available.
In captivity, they live 1-2 years.
What I do for my hermit crabs is I take a shallow hermit crab dish (found at pet stores), fill it with fresh NATURAL SPRING WATER (all other water will kill crabs. trust me!), and put in a hermit crab sponge (also found at pet stores). This way they can pleasantly have their NATURAL SPRING WATER (remember that!) without drowning.
Hermit Crabs can use cocanut husk, or soil that you get from any pet store used for reptiles. Hermit Crabs also use sand, they need a wet and also dry climate. If you get oil from the ground, you must bake it or freeze it in a really hot or cold temp. for a long while.
