just opened up a bag of real oats i vacume sealed for y2k. still had a vacume and was not anny different than fresh.. also still eating rice from y2k. rice gets an oder "stalish" but when cooked and flavor added no problem. as long as no moisture or bugs get in your ok. just my opinion. all my buckets with beans or rice were lined with heavy dark plastic bags, wrap a Golf ball sized piece of dry ice in a wash cloth drop it in the bottom and fill with your food item and seal the bucket. oxygen is your enemy in food preservation.
