There are simple carbs, which include sugars and sugary fruit, and complex carbs which include your breads and vegetables. Simple carbs get processed very quickly, so your body either burns or stores them rabidly, and you're hungry again. Complex carbs take longer to break down, so you are fuller longer, and tend to burn off rather than be stored as fat.

If you're on a low-carb diet, avoid all simple carbs like sugars, breads with low fiber, and most fruit. You'll want to stick with protein and complex carbs including leafy greens, and vegetables and grains high in fiber.
