About 7 to 8 British Pound £.

FYI, the British Pound is equal to 1.59 US dollars so steak there is equal to between $11.13 and $12.72 per pound. The cut and quality of what is termed "steak" varies from country to country and Prime beef is more expensive then USDA Choice which was available in Colorado at $5.99 per pound at all three chain stores in the state for a bone in New York Strip Steak. Beef graded Prime is difficult to locate and expensive. (I picked up two Porterhouse at our local meat market at $12.99 per pound this morning for a final fling at the grill before winter sets in. At $42.22 it broke the budget but they were dry-aged and beautifully marbled and we should get a decent stew out of the leftovers before returning to a diet of day old bread and tap water).

A couple of shopping tips that might save the budget. Never shop when you are hungry. Never buy anything that isn't on the grocery list. (A sneaky way around that is to simply use words like meat or produce). Avoid the deli area because the sights and smells may be irresistible. Angus beef is no better then cross bred, Hereford, Shorthorn, Simmental or Charolais beef. That is nothing but a marketing ploy. High Quality beef is grain fed, aged and marbled because the fat gives it the taste that you crave and proper aging adds to the tenderness. Range fed is another marketing scheme that deserves a more appropriate name like flavorless or skinny. Generic products are most often packaged by the people that produce the more expensive name brands, with no change except the label. Never shop with the kids, grand kids and especially the great grandchildren. Carmel covered apples on a stick are not a legitimate substitute for "An Apple A Day", a 12 pack of Coors Light is not a basic and essential part of the nutritional pyramid under grains and melons and pineapples should be purchased whole instead of diced and prepackaged in a plastic "tin".
