I would recommend checking out spudfiles.com , it's pretty much a forum website specializing in spud cannons and a few other related things.or go to YouTube.com and type in "how to build a potato gun"
For your first simple potato gun:
You need a combustion chamber (1-2 foot of 3" PVC), a barrel (2 or more feet of 1.5" or 2" PVC), a reducer to connect these 2 pieces, a cleanout for the back of the combustion chamber ( a screw on cap and the part that connects this to the 3" pipe), and a grill ignitor. I like to drill the hole in the cap and put the ignitor here. You may need to fill in the hole around the igntor with something like JB weld. Use PVC solvent to assemble.
Of coarse potato guns can be dangerous and should not be made by anyone.
step 1Getting started Parts:
-Two pieces of 2" PVC Pipe (any size)
-One 2" Non-threaded PVC End Cap
-One 2" PVC Valve (not threaded)
-One Schrader valve (from an old bike tire)
Tools:
-A saw (to cut the PVC pipe to your desired length)
-A drill with a drill bit that is about the same size as the schrader valve
-PVC Primer and Cement

A parsnip is related to the carrot, native to Eurasia and is not grown in warm climates. The potato is a starchy tuber, is native to Peru and can be grown in warm climates.
I think he only did that because he wanted to experiment and see if it was possible to do.
