There is no certainty as to when Ice cream was actually invented, but there are historical accounts of ice cream recipes, which include sweetened cream and fruit, dating back as far as 1718. These recipes explained how to fill lidded pots with the cream and fruit, and then bury them in a large tub, in a mixture of ice and salt, which was then hidden in a cool basement for four hours until the cream and fruit were frozen. Pretty much the same principle used in the crank type of freezers, used to make ice cream in the mid to late 19th century and early to mid 20th century. (On a side note, the Ice cream cone was said to have been invented by an Ice cream vendor in New Jersey, in the 1930s, who got tired of his customers making off with his dishes.)
The lock washer was invented by a blacksmith in New Brunswick. His name is Morris Landry and he invented it in 1901 to keep the nuts on rail cars. This is in the Historic museum
