Even if there is sugar in the gum (although you would be hard presed to find that kind of gum now a days) if you chew it long enough benefit of saliva production will outweigh the presence of sugar.

2. If your a combat sport athlete it can help you cut weight. As mentioned above production of saliva can help you dehydrate and you can make the lower weight class if you so desire.

3. Provide some stress relief. It is comon for people who are in experiencing stress to eat more, and chewing gum can provide a good substitute. When you chew your brain activity is reduced by ~10% which can help you to not over react in stressful situations.

3. Provide temporary relief from foul mouth odor.

4. Blowing bubbles is just plain fun.
