It is extremely difficult to actually see the ova in the nest because of the light reflecting and refracting through the bubbles. After 3 days or so once the fry become wrigglers you will be more likely to see them.

No. The male betta makes the bubble nest, the female lays the eggs, the male fertilizes the eggs and then takes the eggs and places them into the bubbles of the nest. Most often he will then turn and attack the female i still present. The male will then tend to the eggs until hatched making sure to replace any eggs that fall out of their bubbles.

Do cockatiel eggs hatch without a male?

Female fish just lay eggs and without the fertilizer from the male the embryo in the eggs won't survive long enough to hatch. I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that's how it goes. male betta fish make a nest for the female on top of the water for the female to lay the eggs inside the nest. then the male will fertilize the nest, but the female has to have a nest to lay the eggs.
