Starfish and sea anemones are in different phyla, Echinodermata and Cnidaria, respectivley. Nevertheless, there are some similarities.

Similarities:

  • Not bilaterally symmetrical. All true starfish have pentaradial symmetry, while sea anemones have radial symmetry.
  • Both are predators.
  • Both have a mouth at the center of their bodies.
  • Both live only in salt water

Differences:

  • Starfish have a hard outer "skin," and sea anemones do not.
  • Starfish move to seek their prey, while sea anemones are generally stationary.
  • A starfish's mouth is located on its underside, while a sea anemone's mouth is on its top.
  • Most starfish have a pass-through digestive system where food enters the mouth and waste exits through the anus, while sea anemones have only one opening which serves as both mouth and anus.
  • Starfish have a vascular system that pumps water through the animal's body, while sea anemones have no such structure.

Sea cucumber and star fish both belongs to the phyla Echinodermata belonging to class holothurians and asterias respectively. Sea cucumber has an elongated body with tentacles all arranged anteriorly. Thay have a soft body with small spine like protective structure. They are seen at sea bottom and they have a special ability to evaginate the entire digestive system in times of danger. They have medicinal use. Star fish has 5 radiating arm and so the name star. They have oral and aboral end. Mouth opens on oral side and ends on aboral sides. The starfish has a more rigid body because of thickened calciumplates in the border. The dried starfishes could be used as feed for poultry atec. as it is a rich source of calcium.

Urchins have a globular body like a pincushion or fat pancake; stars have arms radiating out from a central body. Both are echinoderms, which means they have spiny skin; an urchin has larger spines that stick out for protection and movement. Both have their mouth on the underside next to the sea floor, and their anus on top.

Sea stars, brittle stars, and basket stars are all kinds of starfish. They are echinoderms, or spiny-skinned animals. Sea stars have thicker arm. Brittle stars have very thin arms. Both kinds of animals have a central body that is roughly circular.

There is no difference. They are the same animal just a different name. The name was changed due to the fact that sea stars aren't really fish at all.
