I understand from Google that the word 'palanta' is derived from the latin word for sprout or seedling.

Do you mean Polenta?

If so (also according to Google!) Polenta is coarsely or finely ground yellow or white cornmeal boiled with water or stock into a porridge and eaten directly or baked, fried or grilled before serving.

Hope that helps.
