The word watermelon was originally originated from Greece. In the late fall of the Roman Empire some Greeks who had gotten drunk at a party who were ironicly in possesion of this fruit. Since they were drunk they accdentally lost it. It was was later found by some wandering Romans who had never tasted such sweet fruit. It was then called "Irbaluus" which in furthur context means "Sweet goddess Walersush"which was a low key roman goddess.Therefore bringing us the word which today we call watermelon.
