Fruits such as apples and Pears will rot if exposed to certain fungi. These fungi are relatively weak but can attack damaged or overly ripened fruit. When fruits such as apples ripen, they give off a gas called ethylene. Ethylene gas accelerates the ripening process, which will lead to over ripening. Taking certain precautions to prevent exposure to fungi and over ripening will prevent the rotting of the fruit. Washing the fruit in lemon juice and/or storing the fruit in airtight containers and removing rotting fruit are examples of ways to prevent rotting. it can also rot in warm & dry areas. hope this help u :) :p
Lemon juice contains citric acid, a weak acid, but it will have have very little effect on the apple. but it will not make it rot faster it will make it rot slower

Apples rot slower than bananas because they are harder. Hard fruits or vegges rot very slow, for example carrots. But compare carrots to cucumbers which rot really fast because they are soft. Same goes for apples and bananas.
