The mallow plant (Athaea officinalis) that grew in Egyptian marshes.
The mallow plant actually comes from Egypt. There are plants that taste like marshmallows that are found in the rain forest, but the mallow plant is not.
Ancient peoples used the marshmallow plant (Althaea officinalis) for medicinal purposes. They used the gelatinous sap from the roots of the plant and as a remedy for sore throat. They sweetened it with honey. The Egyptians mixed the sap with nuts and honey to make sweets. The Romans ate the plant as a vegetable and it was a delicacy.
I am unaware of marshmallows helping in any way with diarrhea. However, in medieval medicine, the leave the the plant, the Marsh Mallow (Althaea officinalis) was used for this purpose. Alternative Medicine advises this plant (not the confection) may be used as a treatment for Crohn's Disease. Standard or Empirical Medicine disputes this claim.
Gelatin is important in making marshmallows because the gelatin is replacing the thick, gluey substance from the marshmallow plant.
just freeze the marshmallows then bake them I have tried it.
A marshmallow is called a marshmallow because it is a marshmallow. It is called a marshmallow because one of the earliest recipes called for use of the sap of the root of the marshmallow plant.
Some alternative ingredients that can be used to make rice crispy treats without marshmallows include peanut butter, honey, maple syrup, or almond butter as a binding agent.

What are you trying to make? You can put marshmallows in most anything and that is what you will have. Marshmallows in a biscuit. I can't believe this would make a good finished product, but I'm not the one eating it.
years ago a baker tried to make a new candy and that was when marshmallows were accidentally made. How cool is that!?
