The walrus has a diverse diet, feeding on numerous small marine organisms like shrimp, crabs, tube worms, soft corals, tunicates, sea cucumbers, mollusks etc. Their favorite prey are the "Benthic Bivalce Mollusks" in other words Clams. They forage for prey along the sea bottom and identify them using their sensitive whiskers. They are opportunistic and can evey prey on smaller seals when they find one.

In the original poem the Walrus and the Carpenter trick and eat a lot of hapless oysters. In Disney's 1951 animation the Walrus eats ALL of them while the Carpenter isn't looking. However, while his actions are morally questionable, there is no suggestion that the Walrus has actually committed a crime.
