Paddlefish are born in water bodies such as rivers, lakes, or reservoirs where their parents deposit their eggs. The female paddlefish releases eggs into the water, which are then fertilized by the male paddlefish. After fertilization, the eggs develop into larvae before hatching into young paddlefish.
Paddlefish are native to North America, primarily found in the Mississippi River basin and the Great Lakes region. They can also be found in parts of Canada, Mexico, and China due to introductions or habitat changes.
The largest fish caught in the Yangtze River is the Chinese paddlefish, which could grow up to 23 feet in length. However, unfortunately, the Chinese paddlefish is now considered functionally extinct due to overfishing and habitat loss.
American paddlefish was created in 1792.
