disclamer: this answer is assuming you are a non commercial fisherman catching from shore or boat with a dip net, trot line or landing net ( NO TRAPS PERMITTED EITHER STATE). There is no season for RI its always open you wont find them anytime other than end of June to end of aug but there is in MA closed 1/1 to 4/30 and alot of the prime crabbing grounds intersect so if you are onshore pay attn to what state you are in RI is 5" tip to tip and you must be or have a RI resident that is able to catch crab (in other words babysitting your friends kid who is from RI wont cut it)

in MA no resident requirement 4 1/8 tip to tip 50 crab per day same rules in the disclamer apply good luck and happy crabbing sry my spots a secret!!
