Yes - but only if the apartment is centrally heated, or you can heat the bowl. Bettas are tropical fish that need heaters. If you cannot provide enough warmth, the best option is to put a bubbler (a small corner filter) in the bowl and then buy three white cloud mountain minnows. They are coldwater fish and will tolerate very low temperatures. DO NOT buy goldfish. They are absolutely unsuitable for bowls and hav the potential to grow up to a foot long. The absolute minimum tank size for one goldfish is 20 gallons, with 10 gallons extra needed for every additional goldfish. Also note that there's no 'them'. A fish bowl is really only suitable for one betta. You cannot keep multiple males, or females with males. You can keep females together but only when there are four or five of them (or more) and they are in a large tank with plenty of places to hide. This is the only way to stop aggression. Bettas have so much personality that one in a bowl is still a great display, particularly if you add some decorations.
probably, but you'll have to wash it for a long time with very hot fresh water. this will kill anything living on it and, hopefully, remove all the salt. betta bowls are very small and even trace amounts of salt could change the water enough to affect him.
Siamese Fighting Fish are available at most pet stores. Petco, Petsmart, even Walmart. But I would suggest looking at a local pet store or fish shop, one that is like a small business just not a franchise. Small local pet stores tend to take better care of their fish. You should find them in the fish section, in little plastic cups. I would recommend keeping them in half gallon or more containers, preferably with a lid but with plenty of ventilation because Siamese Fighting Fish breathe at the surface.
There are not many fish that can be kept with Siamese fighting fish. They are able to survive in small bowls because they have a breathing organ (a labyrinth) that allows them to breathe some atmospheric air. While they will get on with most catfish, livebearers and other small fish, these other fish will not be happy in a bowl. If you add a filter, you could keep some pygmy corydoras, otocinclus catfish, ember tetras or white cloud mountain minnows. Each of these are schooling species, buy at least 3 and be aware you will now have a lot more water changes to do.
Well, if you mean a Siamese fighting fish (betta splendens) the male are always bigger than the females, and usually the males are more colorful. The males have large tails, as the femaleshave small tails and dorsal fins.
Small insects like pinhead crickets may suffice, but fish food is recommended.
The only fish you can keep in a 5 gallon tank is one betta (Siamese fighting fish) on it's own as that is a very small tank.
Bowls are not meant for fish. 1. all bowls are to small. 2. no filtration. Well..this is correct, but you can have a Chinese fighting fish without filtration but only one per bowl.
Because you worry about the small stuff. You shouldn't sweat the small stuff.
Bettas, Siamese Fighting Fish. I may have missed some, but if your talking about small fish, I hve most of them. P.S. NEVER and i repeat NEVER put two male Betta together!!!!!
a sauce pan
Siamese fighting fish prefer water temperatures of 24-30 degrees Celsius, or 75-86 degrees Fahrenheit.80 degrees or so, they are tropical and live in rice patties through out Asia. They should have a heater in tank and not be kept in tiny glass bowl at least a 5gallon tank would be best with at least 3 femal bettas
"Goldfish bowls" has been a long outdated name for a container that is far too small to house any fish whatsoever. They typically hold about 1 gallon of water, which is unsuitable for anything other than a place to put your loose change. A Betta (Siamese fighting fish) is a fish that can live in 2.5 to 5 gallons at minimum - they are the fish that pet stores keep in little cups. This is not because that's all the water they need to survive, but because they cannot be housed together in the same tank and there is simply no room to place each fish alone in one tank each.
