Top consumers, or apex predators, are most at risk from bioaccumulation because they occupy higher trophic levels in the food chain and consume multiple prey species that may contain harmful substances. As these toxins, such as heavy metals or persistent organic pollutants, accumulate in the organisms they eat, their concentration increases in the bodies of top consumers—a process known as biomagnification. This heightened exposure can lead to severe health issues, including reproductive failures, immune system damage, and increased mortality rates. Consequently, the ecological integrity of entire ecosystems can be threatened due to the vulnerability of these key species.
Tertiary consumers
top of the list of c
trophic level one.... the tertiary consumers, or top carnivores
Because they can kill people so we kill them.
well the food chain goes like this the producers make their own food and then the consumers eat them when it reaches the top level consumers they die and the decomposers eat them ,but if the decomposers die what will the middle class consumers eat so the middle class consumers will die out,but then the top class consumers have to eat the smaller and lower consumers which is not enough for them so now all the lower consumers will get eaten and die+the top class consumers will dievof hunger. thus if the decomposers were removed from the energy pyramaind it will affect almost all of the ecosystem.
Energy is lost ascending each trophic level of the pyramid of energy. Therefore, when quaternary consumers eat tertiary consumers, most of the energy stored in the tertiary consumers' bodies is lost and only 10-15% is passed on to the quaternary consumers. Quaternary consumers, meanwhile, occupy the top position in the pyramid of energy because nothing preys upon them in turn. (This answer is straight from E2020 answer check please Enjoy :)
Animals are usually at the top of a food chain. This is because they are consumers. Producers (plants) are at the bottom of the food chain. The producers are consumed by the primary consumers (herbivores) who are then consumed by the secondary consumers ( carnivores ).
Why are there fewer top level consumers than lower level consumers
primary consumers -->secondary consumers -->tertiary consumers
the top of te moon
No, they are top predators or tertiary consumers.
The top such Internet tool as rated by consumers in 2012 was Duck Duck Go. Also in the top 10 were Dogpile, Ask, Bing, Webopedia, Google, Yahoo, and Mahalo.
