They did not make candy because sugar will not be discovered or used for thousands of years. All the way up to the 1500's honey was the only sweetener used. The sugar plant is a new world plant.
Caveman did not "invent" candy. People have always wanted sweets, but it took centuries before there were things like chocolate and sugar introduced to people. Honey was used for many centuries as a sweet and the caveman may have used it as well.

The Salem Gibralter, the first candy ever sold in the United States, was developed in 1806. It was a hard candy with flavors of Lemon or Peppermint. The modern candy cane came from the 17th century as straight sticks of sugar candy. The story goes that in 1670 the choirmaster of the Cologne Cathedral had the sugar sticks bent in the shape of a shepherds crook and gave them to children. It became a popular tradition and used of candy canes on trees appeared by the 1800’s and were still white. It wasn’t until the early 20th century stripes were added.
