He is probably hungry, wants to explore somewhere else (probably his cage is too small or he hasn't got much to do) or he needs to knaw his teeth down.

Ensure he has lots of food, that you hold him/her daily, and that you maybe give her/him somwhere to explore, like a run around the kitchen floor. < --- Just make the hamster cant get in any gaps between the cooker e.t.c as you risk in loosing your hamster behind the fridge! Also make sure you have something like a chew or something that your hamster can knaw on. This will ensure their teeth don't get too long.

Hopefully that makes sense!

Can hamsters chew through metal?

If the hamster is chewing the bars of the cage, nothing as long as you keep an eye on the cage bar and make sure that the hamster is not eating through the cage! If it is chewing the cage bars it's a sign that he wants to come out. However if your mean that you are feeding him wire then stop cos it'll get caught in the hamsters throat or organs and cause a very traumatic death!

Provide the hamster with chew toys or wooden sticks to divert its attention from the cage bars. Consider adding more enrichment activities in the cage to keep the hamster mentally stimulated and engaged. Do hamsters make lots of noise. If so would you recommend me keeping one in my room but i am quite a light sleeper?

Hamsters usually do make a lot of noise. They chew on the bars of the cage, their wheel may be squeaky, and their digging often is noisy. If you get a good hamster wheel and a cage without bars, then your hamster is probably alright to be in your room.

Can a hamster bite through his or her cage?

They should not be able to if it is made well. They will most likely chew on the bars (you should try to discourage this-as the paint is not good for them-by giving them wood chew toys) but they can't get through them as they are just guinea pigs.

Is the teddy bear hamster well behaved?

In the right environment they are usually happy as can be and very well behaved. When you first put them in their cage they might be a little jumpy for a few days, but after that their awesome! if you have a wire cage they might chew on the bars a little.
