Dr. E. Kazim. M.D. in his article "Medical aspects of forbidden foods in Islam" (July 1981 issue of Muslim Journal has described diseases carried or caused by the flesh of the swine.
He writes:
The pig is a scavenger. It is an omnivorous animal. It eats everything. There are many diseases carried from swine to man, particularly parasite infestations. Lately extensive research has been focused on senility-old age is characterized by hardening of inner lining of the blood vessels of the heart, brain etc. a process called atheroselerosis. When a clot forms, it results in coronary thrombosis or a heart attack, cerebral thrombosis or stroke.
Different dietary factors are responsible for atheroselerosis. Gross atheroma may be produced in rabbit by feeding it with cholesterol, but when you add lard (derived from hog fat) to the cholesterol, the incidence of atheroma is increased and thus you would produce coronary thrombosis, and myocardial infraction.
Besides, lard contains 2800 units of vitamin D per 100 grams and no vitamin A at all. Lately vitamin D has been held responsible for atheroma, by causing increased absorption of calcium in the blood vessels. In human beings, serum cholesterol is not dependent on the intake of cholesterol in the diet, but depends upon the proportion of animal fats in the diet, which elevates the beta-lipo protein level in the blood. Animal fats contain saturated fatty acids and these saturated fatty acids have been found to be as one of the causes of atheroma in man. Medium fat bacon contains 25% proteins and 55% fat.
According to medical research, the fat content in pork is more than any other meat (beef, mutton etc.) and it takes longer to digest. Dr. M Jaffer in an article in the Islamic Review (London) of January 1997 issue has listed 16 kinds of harmful germs, which have been discovered in pork in modern researches and the diseases, which could be caused by them. The number of patients suffering from tapeworm disease is the highest in the world among pork eating nations. Other diseases attributed to pigs are caused by tri-chinelia spirates and intestinal worms occupy first place among such nations too.
Dr. Glen Shepherd wrote the following on the dangers of eating pork in Washington Post (31 May 1952).
"One in six people in USA and Canada have germs in their muscles - trichinosis 8 from eating pork infected with trichina worms. Many people who are infected shows no symptoms. Most of those, who do have, recover slowly. Some die; some are reduced to permanent invalids. All were careless pork caters".
He continued "No one is immune from the disease and there is no cure. Neither antibiotics nor drugs or vaccines affect these tiny deadly worms. Preventing infection is the real answer."
After reading the statement of Dr. Shepherd, one can realize that there is no real guarantee of safety when eating pork that one would not be affected by trichina worm. That is why modern doctors advise three prohibitions during illness: no liquor, no pork and no smoking.
Jews also prohibit pork.
Many things acquire bacteria by poor handling and some thing are by nature impure and bacteria prone- like scavengers.
Eat of the good things provided for you
We probably all enjoy good food, but we must make sure the food we eat is permissible and safe for us. That means making ourselves familiar with what is allowed and what is not allowed according to Islam.
The Qur'an makes it quite clear as to what is halal and haram. Basically, all food is halal except for the following:
{foods which are forbidden}: The Holy Qur'an, 5:3 - Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah (swt); that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars)...
{prohibition of intoxicants): The Holy Qur'an, 5:90 - O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan's handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper.
(permissibility of seafood): The Holy Qur'an, 35:12 - Nor are the two bodies of flowing water alike,- the one palatable, sweet, and pleasant to drink, and the other, salt and bitter. Yet from each (kind of water) do ye eat flesh fresh and tender, and ye extract ornaments to wear; and thou seest the ships therein that plough the waves, that ye may seek (thus) of the Bounty of Allah (swt) that ye may be grateful.
Ingredients to look out for:
Haram (prohibited) ingredients are those ingredients whose source are from pork, pork by-products, alcohol and Alcoholic Beverages, human body such as human hair.
BONE PHOSPHATE - E542 An anti-caking agent made from the degreased steam-extract from animal bones.
COCHINEAL/CARMINE - E120, E122 A red dyestuff consisting of dried bodies of female cochineal insects. Note: E124 Ponceau 4R is acceptable although it is sometimes known as Cochineal Red A.
GELATINE Gelatine is an odourless, tasteless, protein substance like glue or jelly, obtained by boiling the bones, hoofs, and other waste parts of animals. Vegetarian alternatives such as Agar Agar and Gelozone exist.
GLYCERINE - E422 May be produced from animal fats, synthesised from propylene or from fermentation of sugars..
L-CYSTEINE A flavour and improving agent manufactured from animal hair and chicken feathers.
MAGNESIUM STEARATE May be made from animal fat. Often found in medicines.
RENNET (ANIMAL) An enzyme taken from the stomach of a newly killed calf used in the cheese making process. Vegetarian cheese is produced using microbial or fungal enzymes, or chymosin.
VANILLA EXTRACT Vanilla is a plant product. It is extracted with alcohol as the solvent of choice, from the vanilla bean and is normally kept in a solution containing alcohol. If you examine at a bottle of vanilla extract, you will find it lists alcohol as an ingredient, along with the percentage of alcohol.
WHEY During cheese making, a coagulum is formed by clotting milk with rennet. When the coagulum is cut, a watery liquid known as whey is released and drained off leaving the curd to be salted and further processed into cheese. Whey contains water, fat, protein, lactose, minerals and lactic acid. Cream, butter, cheese, drinks, syrups and powder are some of the products made from whey.
SHELLAC E904: a resin from the lac insect
EMULSIFIERS (E470 to E483) - haram if obtained from pork or non-halal sources.
Apart from haram things there is also a 'grey area' called mushbooh. Mushbooh is an Arabic term which means suspected. If one does not know the Halal or Harm status of a particular food or drink, such a food or drink is doubtful. A practicing Muslims prevents him/herself from consuming doubtful things.
Let me remind you that just because a packaging says 'suitable for vegetarians' it doesn't mean it is halal, as there could very well be alcohol etc. on the list of ingredients of those items.....better check to be safe.
Quran 16:115: "He has only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and any (food) over which the name of other than Allah (swt) has been invoked. But if one is forced by necessity, without willful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, then Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Yes, Muslims can eat veal that is slaughtered per religion requirements.
this is not true that Muslims only eat vegatables. Muslims eat all those things that are not forbidden in Islam. Muslims eat chicken, meat, vegetables, fish, beans, etc. Its hindus who consider cows as their gods , they eat vegetables.
They can eat meat. They can eat any type of meat besides pig and certain birds. But, the animals have to be cut a certain way. Since there are two types of Muslims: one can eat no meat at all and the other can eat any type of meat besides pig and certain birds. But, the animals have to be cut a certain way to be eaten by this type I'm talking about.
Muslims eat a variety of foods from chicken to steak. They also eat fish, rice, grains, wheat and potatoes. They are not permitted to eat anything of pork.
Well i am Muslim myself and i know that the meat Muslims eat should be "Halal" and if meat or pig or anything Muslims do not eat, that is called "Haram" By Dr.Sharfraz. Choudhury
Yes, as long as it doesnt contain alcohol, and pig fat etc. Plus dont eat sweets and chocolates, its bad for you...

Hi ! Being a Muslim, I eat sometimes mozarella on pizza ! And I can say that it's delicious especially when there are those threads it's funny ! lol So yes, Muslims can eat mozarella as it's a cheese made of buffalo's milk !! Of course it shouldn't be mixed with non-halal meat or something else !!
Muslims aren't allowed to eat pork for sure but for the other types of meat it really depends on how it is slaughtered if Allah s name is said before the slaughter then it will be halal There are many more other rules for slaughter but here are the basics the slaughter has to be quick and painless the knife must be sharp and many more
Chocolates that are halal (i.e. allowed for Muslims to eat) are those types that are not including licitly forbidden ingredients as Alcohol or pork fats, ...etc
Most of them eat raw meat like tiger, lion, etc, but some of them eat cooked meat, such as cat, pig and dog.
Muslims have to eat Halal food, i.e. meat that is permitted and which has been sacrificed in the Islamic way. Just like the Jews and Christians, pork is not permitted as mentioned in the Holy Scriptures and the Quran.
