Reno, Nevada is a city located in north west Nevada. Outside of three communities located in the Las Vegas area, Reno, and its 218,000 residents, is the fourth most populated city in the state. Reno, which has been dubbed as "The Biggest Little City in the World," is well known for its casinos.
The main tourism attraction in Reno is the casinos and legalized gambling. While Reno was once the gambling center of the United States, the growth of Las Vegas in recent years has shifted much of the gambling revenue out of the city. However, there are still many popular casinos in Reno, some of which are larger resort style casinos that are similar to those built in Las Vegas today. According to experts, the Peppermill Hotel and Casino is the most outstanding casino and hotel in Reno. Other large casino hotels that bring in millions of tourists each year are the Atlantis and the Grand Sierra Resort.
To bring more tourists to the area, Reno holds many popular events each year. Some of the most popular events that take place in Reno are the "Best in the West Rib Cook Off" contest, an annual Cinco de Mayo celebration, Hot August Nights, which is a classic car convention, and various Bowling tournaments.
Tourists who travel to Reno also have many nightlife options to choose from. Downtown Reno has undergone a strong revitalization over the past decade, which has led to many new bars and restaurants. The most popular nightlife locations in Reno are on 1st and 2nd streets between Arlington and Sierra. Beyond the new revitalized downtown, many of the larger and successful hotel and casinos also have popular nightclubs.
For those traveling with children, Reno has many entertaining options. The Great Basin Adventure, which is located in Reno, is an old-fashioned park that is designed for children. The park has a petting zoo, a log ride, and an old rehabbed mine which allows children to pan for gold. The Great Basin also has a beautiful hiking trail that allows visitors to experience all that the landscape of northwest Nevada.
