"Edelweiss" was made popular in The Sound of Music(1965). It is sung first by Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) and his daughter Liesl (Charmian Carr) in the salon shortly after the puppet show. It is sung later in the film, again by Captain von Trapp, when the family is appearing in the music festival. He becomes emotional at the thought of leaving his beloved Austria and his wive joins him in singing and rouses the audience to join in, too - a lovely scene of national pride.
